Respite Care: What is it and who can Benefit From it?

Family caregiving is a beautiful labor of love, but it can also be complex, exhaustive, and demanding. If you are caring for a parent or another family member, let us help you take the break you deserve with our Respite Care Program. Respite care can be a real sanity saver for overburdened family caregivers, especially those who care for an aging loved one, their children, and work outside the home.

What is Respite Care?

Respite care involves another caregiver or assisted living community temporarily caring for someone to give their regular caregiver a break. Respite care at Grand Oaks of Okeechobee starts with a one week minimum and can last up to several weeks. Many caregivers choose Grand Oaks’ respite care when they want to take a vacation or when a family emergency arises. Caregivers also use our respite care services when they want to visit family in another state, help their child plan a wedding, address their own medical needs, or simply get a little rest and relaxation. Taking a break helps caregivers feel refreshed and better able to provide quality care for the ones they love.

There are other reasons to use respite care, too. Having your loved one stay at Grand Oaks through our Respite Care Program is a great way for them to get acclimated to our community, should they decide they want to move to an assisted living community in the future.

What Does Respite Care Include?

At Grand Oaks, our respite care residents have access to the same quality health care services, luxurious amenities, and enriching activities as our full-time residents, including:

  • Fully furnished apartments
  • 24-hour staffing
  • Assistance with dressing, grooming, and walking
  • Three chef-prepared meals daily, plus snacks
  • Life enrichment/activity program
  • Housekeeping services
  • Companionship and socialization
  • And more

Even if you feel that respite care isn’t something that you or your loved one could currently benefit from, an emergency situation or family illness could arise and put you in a caregiving bind. One way to be prepared is to understand what respite care is, how it can benefit you and your family, and how to find good respite care services, like those offered at Grand Oaks.
