Residents of Grand Oaks Okeechobee Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

Residents of Grand Oaks of Okeechobee recently received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I was very pleased the majority of our residents at all Grand Oaks communities consented and received their first vaccine dose,” said Laurie Allen, Grand Oaks Administrator.

On January 21-22, the first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were administered to residents who wished to be vaccinated. The administration of the second dose is scheduled for February 11-13, 2021.

Staff members at all three Grand Oaks locations have been working tirelessly to ensure the vaccination process goes smoothly. All necessary paperwork was completed for residents prior to being vaccinated, and all residents were monitored for any symptoms following their vaccination.

“It took our entire team of staff to make sure paperwork was completed, to bring residents down to the clinic, monitor them for symptoms, and then assist them to return to their apartments,” said Laurie.

When asked about receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Grand Oaks resident Elaine P. said, “My arm was a little sore the next day, but I had no other symptoms. I’m very grateful to everyone at Grand Oaks for taking such good care of us!”

In addition to the residents, essential caregivers, staff members, and third party workers who requested to receive the vaccine were also included in Grand Oaks’ vaccine count.

Local CVS and Walgreens stores have also taken great care of the residents at all three Grand Oaks communities during the vaccine rollout. Healthcare professionals from CVS and Walgreens are administering the COVID-19 vaccine to the residents.

“It takes a community working together to keep everyone safe, and we are all looking forward to a much healthier and happier world!” said Laurie.
